Energy t With the issue of climate change demanding urgent attention, we have ourselves some ambitious, but economically feasible, carbon reduction targets. Our ultimate goal is to be carbon neutral. To help us realise this goal, we recently joined forces with the Environmental Protection Authority and the Australian Industry Group to come up with a carbon management strategy, which we are already implementing. Additional carbon emissions reporting and reductions will continue under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme and Climate Change Action Fund. We are also proud members of Grow Me The Money, an initiative to achieve business sustainability.
Water t To play our part in easing the water crisis, we have installed a recycling system for all water that runs through our plate room, as well as tanks to collect rainwater from the plant roof. Together, these measures have reduced our annual consumption of drinking water by 70 per cent. In recognition of these achievements, McPherson’s Printing Group was awarded the Smart Water Management Award at the 2009 Powercor Central Goldfields Business Awards.
Waste t We recycle all our photography products, aluminium printing plates, rubber blankets, paper, paper dust, plastics and timber. With the support of Rotary International, we donate our retired computers and parts to developing countries, where they are helping kids get access to better education. And we are enthusiastic participants in the Victorian Government’s Waste Wise program.
Transport t We have been proud members of the environmental non-profit organisation, Greenfleet Australia, since 2005. We have subscribed our entire fleet of corporate vehicles to the program, for which Greenfleet has planted trees to help offset vehicle emissions, and help fight salinity and habitat loss in the Murray Darling Basin.
Sustainable choices t We work closely with our customers, suppliers and sub-contractors to help them find greener alternatives for their own businesses. We can recommend environmentally sustainable papers (certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council and Program for Endorsement of Forestry Certification), non-toxic vegetable-based inks and the most economical design options to reduce waste.
